Violin Concerto at the BBC Proms

“remarkably exhilarating and dramatically cogent…”
Stephen Johnson, BBC Music Magazine

On August 1st 2014, one of Sally Beamish’s largest and most important works will be given its London premiere at the BBC Proms, with its dedicatee, Anthony Marwood, as soloist. The BBC Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Martyn Brabbins, a long-time champion of Beamish’s work, who also conducted the world premiere with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Sally says: “With the request for a concerto came, in the post, a slim volume: ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’. ‘How about this as an idea for the concerto?’ Anthony wrote, and I was baffled – until I started to read.”

Written in 1995 for her friend and colleague Anthony Marwood, the concerto received sensational reviews both for its premiere, and for the BIS CD that was issued ten years later.

This work is available on the BIS label, performed by Anthony Marwood with the RSNO, conducted by Martyn Brabbins.
