Life as a fairytale princess is no picnic, especially in the case of Princess Rosalind, whose ambitions as a scientist are at odds with her royal duties.

When she drops her experimental golden ball into a pond while out on a field trip, she doesn’t expect a frog to turn up on her windowsill, claiming his reward.

This work was commissioned by the National Opera Studio as part of their 12:40 project: 12 new arias to celebrate their 40th anniversary. 12:40 was produced in partnership with Second Movement and in association with the Librettist Network with the generous support of the Nicholas John Trust.

The Frog Prince was conceived in collaboration with, and first performed by Polly Leech (mezzo) and Erika Gundesen (piano) at Hoxton Hall, London, in June 2018.
